  • Originally posted at: longandshortreviews/boScraps of Paper had everything I enjoy in a story-a mystery to be solved, secrets from the past, and possibly a ghost in the heroine’s new house.Ms. Griffith did a wonderful job setting the scene for this small town mystery. The town is even called Spookie and I felt like I was there roaming around viewing everything as the characters went about their business. There’s a developing love interest for Abigail in the shape of an ex-sheriff, at least yo [...]

  • I enjoy cozy mysteries but generally don’t expect too much from them. Scraps of Paper isn’t a horrible book, it just suffers from being too bland. The mystery was too easy to solve, and the characters were rather boring.

  • This was a good clean mystery; this proves that a good book can be written with no sex involved. After her husband was found dead, Abigail moves to quiet Spookie where she purchases a home with its own mystery. She finds scraps of paper on which are written notes from a girl who once lived there suggesting that perhaps something sinister might have happened on the property. Abigail befriends Frank an ex Chicago cop and together they uncover the truth about what really happened to the girl, her br [...]

  • An excellent read and mystery. Plenty of suspects which would delight any reader. The tenants of the house that Abigail buys disappeared years ago. She must investigate. This is the beginning of a new series -- a long one I hope.

  • Two years ago, Abigail Sutton’s husband went out and vanished. Two years later, she learns he was killed. Grieving, she picks up the pieces of her life, resolves to becoming a full-time artist (at least until her saved up money is gone), and moves to a quaint small town. There, she buys an old farmhouse that once belonged to the late Edna Summers. As Abigail gets to know her new neighbors and develops a close friendship with retired police officer Frank Lester, she renovates the house. But as [...]

  • Abigail is a woman who has lived in limbo for two years after her husband disappeared on his way to the store. She knew he would never just leave her and she waited for him to come home. But he isn't coming home. He was killed , his car stripped, and both dumped in a ravine. Abigail sold up and is looking for a new home, believing whe will know the town and house when she sees it.Enter Spookie, population 558, a small town surrounded in mist and mystery. Abigail feels sure her home is in this to [...]

  • This book has everything that I like a good cozy mystery to have. It's well written, moves along quickly, and has a few well developed characters that I can identify with. I felt like I was right there with Abby, moving into the little town of Spookie, turning a small house into a new home, and gradually getting to know the people there. There is a hint of paranormal activity - just a hint, mind you. Enough to create interest and a few goose bumps, but not enough to give you nightmares. There is [...]

  • Cute series title - Spookie Town Murder Mystery. But this book isn't all that spooky or mysterious. The story: it's a bit bland and washed down with more telling than showing. Not a lot happens. Because it's a short read, it was easy to get through. The mystery is not really a mystery because it was obvious who did what. The main character, Abigail, was not fleshed out well and was inconsistent in her actions and thoughts. Is she a strong female or isn't she? Is she independent or isn't she? Spoo [...]

  • Abby's husband left home one night and never returned. He left a hole in her heart and she never stopped hoping for his return. Then, two years later, his body is recovered. He hadn't left voluntarily, he was the victim of a mugging. Needing a fresh start, Abby quits her job and moves to a small town called Spookie, where she uses her savings to buy a fixer-upper. She is intrigued to learn the previous owner died under mysterious circumstances, and her sister and two children had disappeared thi [...]

  • I downloaded this book from Kindle Australia thinking it was going to be a quick cosy mystery read and it ended up being SO much more!An easy, clean read with a bit of added oomph and a hint of the paranormal, it was also a look at how the sins of the past are revisited in the future, as well as a heartwarming read of new beginnings later in life. The sad truth of living in a small community where everyone knows what you're doing even before you do brought about a few giggles, along with a few [...]

  • Grieving widow Abigail is in search of a fresh start, and finds a seemingly perfect house in the town of Spookie in which to begin her new life. But the house holds secrets - can Abigail solve the mystery of the disappeared former inhabitants? She is determined to do just that. The story was strong (mostly), although the murderer was fairly obvious early on in the story. The dialogue was believable and most of the characters who were supposed to be likeable were. And the small town setting was ap [...]

  • A cozy mystery about the recently widowed, Abigail Sutton, who moved to a small town called Spookie to start her new life. She bought an old fixer-upper and found scraps of paper hidden in the house. She started digging up the history of the house's previous owner and unraveled dark secrets. It was an enjoyable, quick and clean (no profane language) read and I really like Abigail's character. There was a good amount of suspense albeit it was a fairly simple and predictable mystery. What I didn't [...]

  • The first book in the Spookie Town Mystery series. Thirty years ago a mother and her two young children went missing from the town of Spookie never to be heard from again. When Abigail moves to Spookie after the murder of her husband, she only wants some peace and quiet in which to paint and heal. As she refurbishes her new home she finds scraps of paper written by the missing children and decides to try and find out what happened to them. Abigail finds some help from a former Chicago cop named [...]

  • I read this in one sittingI started reading this under the assumption that it was a ghost story. There were a few ghostly encounters but it was more cozy mystery than ghost story. I didn't mind that at all though, the mystery was suspenseful and well thought out. I also appreciated that even though there is a budding romance there was no gratuitous sex scenes. I loved that the author wrapped up all the loose ends in this story even though it is book 1 of a series. I highly recommend it if you en [...]

  • A True CozyCuddle up with a cuppa, or two, a warm throw & maybe your cat will join you . . . .Then cozy up to some wonderful people & a few quirky, but lovable, characters you'd love to know.A 30 year old mystery, a bit of romance & a town like you remember from the early half of the 20th century.Thank you, Kathryn Meyer Griffith, for making this delightful book available for free. I am a new fan!

  • I liked this book. I thought the author did a good job of planning her story. It is a mystery, and she has lots of "misleading" leads. It was a good clean story without obscene language or belabored sex scenes. I will definitely try another of the Spookie Town mysteries. I will add that there were some sentences, pronoun, and verb usage that should have been identified and corrected by a good proof reader.

  • Although, I could figure out who the killer was early on, I was fascinated by the scraps of paper giving clues. Abigail moves to a small town, to start life over again. Little did she know that new town would lead her to solve a thirty year old murder mystery. As well as find friendship and romance.

  • at the start it was a little drawn out but it picked up it got and then it just stayed good near the end i knew what it reminded me of,it was a Jessica Fletcher mystery. this book you only read once or you might find it boring on the second readThere is more books in this series about the town Spookie which i think i might read

  • .This was a cozy mystery, that was suspenseful and very entertaining. Who would not be curious to find hidden clues that lead you to a mystery? The characters were quirky and very likeable. I immensely appreciate that it is a stand alone book within a series. Also, the conclusion was a very H.E.A. Lastly, this is a clean book that readers of all ages can enjoy. These greatly affect my ratings

  • A really good mystery. It had everything: questions with no answers, secrets, the disappearance of a young mother and her 10 year old twins, a small town with very eccentric townfolk, a new owner of a neglected house where the mystery took place, suspense, danger and romance. Totally enjoyed this very fast read and will look for the rest in this series.

  • Charming descriptive highly entertainingThis story shouldn't be called a cozy mystery as it is a little too gory and graphic for that. Nevertheless it has a feel good quality and more than a few twists and turns to keep the reader interested.

  • Good read and kept me guessing until near the end. Protagonist very likeable although I didn't get a true sense of what she looks like. I enjoyed the small town atmosphere where the story takes place. "Spookie" is certainly an odd name for a town but, apropos. Definitely worth the read!

  • Cute little mysteryWhen you move to a town called Spookie, chances are you will find a mystery! I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who likes a good mystery, interesting people and a good storyline. There is no sex and it isn't too gory.

  • Loved this. Abby and Frank are such a cute couple and I intend to read the next one's. Had me hooked from page one and I had no clue who the murderer was till the very end. A very good book by a very good writer.

  • Absolutely loved it!!I fell in the with the main character right away. The story behind the house was fun to figure out as you went along. The love stories that you learn about are heart warming & frightening at times too. Couldn't get enough!

  • Such a good read! This story is wonderful! I liked that it was longer then most mysteries I read! I think I shall ALWAYS remember the children in this story. The children are ghostly and so memorable! Haunted by Spookie Town!
