  • I literally have no idea how I am going to write this review. I’ve had my eye on The Perfect Mother by Aimee Molloy for MONTHS. I saw this pretty little gem on edelweiss and was completely obsessed! I knew I had to read it. Then, to find out The Perfect Mother is going to be a movie with Kerry Washington? Um, SOLD. Though, I am seriously wondering how they will do this book justice. So, when I was pregnant with my daughter, I signed up for babycenter. It is a website with facts about your growi [...]

  • 4.5/5 stars for this addictive, engaging read! Find my full review here: crimebythebook/blog/2018/1This is a fantastic "popcorn read" - aka the kind of suspense novel you just want to binge on! Fans of Liane Moriarty and B.A. Paris will love this pacey, engrossing story of secrets, group dynamics, and interpersonal tension. Couple this with a cast of compelling female leads, and you've got a winner! Highly recommended for addictive, unputdownable spring reading.

  • ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 / 5 red herring filled stars! Review to come closer to publication date. Mark your calendars for May 1st people, you’re going to want to read this one!

  • Now, this is how you do a psychological thriller! I'm in awe that this wonderfully done novel was Molloy's debut! Hearing that this book has been picked up by Kerry Washington for a film that she will also be starring in was definitely a factor in me picking this up 4 months before pub date (along with that stunning cover). The plot intrigued me, a mommy group formed online meets at a bar for a night out and something goes horribly wrong. Color me intrigued. I thought I had this figured out so m [...]

  • With the perfect combination of thrills and shrills; The Perfect Mother not only entertains, but also provokes societal norms that we as a society deal with on a daily basis. The story surrounds a group of mothers (and one father) who call themselves the May Mothers. The May Mothers are all first-time parents who have not only aligned together for comradery, but for validation as well. This group leans on each other for support and complimentary banter. The group mainly centers around Francie, N [...]

  • 4.5 starsIf ever a book screamed, "I want to be the next Big Little Lies" this is it. This book cries for screen adaptation and then I read Kerry Washington bought the rights so I know I am right. But how does it hold up as a book? Very well. I kept flipping the pages and did not guess the identity of the villain which scored big points in my book.A group of pregnant woman join a Mommy group in NYC, They are all due about the same time so they spend a lot of time comparing notes and getting read [...]

  • A fast paced thriller that also shines a light on the scrutiny and competition many women face when they become mothers. In today’s world where the common myth — women can have it all — rings falsely in our ears, a group of women bond over all giving birth in the same month (May). As their friendships grow — all nurtured over tales of birth stories, formula or breastfeeding, stay at home or back to work and more — their lives are shattered after a rare moms night out. One of their babi [...]

  • I received an advance, uncorrected, e-proof copy from HarperCollins in exchange for a fair and honest review. The story starts off with a mom group called the May Mothers (who all had their babies in the same month). They decide they need a night out without the babies and then things get twisted. I don't want to give anything away but this novel is able to capture the intricacies of motherhood perfectly. I couldn't stop reading. The characters and their personalities were nicely developed, the p [...]

  • So. So. So. So. Good. I could not figure out who done it. Was shocked when it was finally revealed. The Perfect Mother is a fresh take on suspense that you will love!

  • The Perfect Mother is a fun and addicting thriller. I was worried about it being too much a "mom book", but Aimme Molloy found the perfect balance. I tore through it really quickly, and really wanted to know what happened. This book was almost a 5⭐ for me, but there were a couple things that made it a 4.5⭐. First, sometimes it was hard to tell which woman I was reading about - they were all pretty similar. Almost all of them had a male partner and one baby. I would have appreciated some dive [...]

  • this book was excellent! there were maybe just a few parts that were a bit unbelievable, but all in all, great! literally was guessing till the last chapter which I love! I can't wait to see how they make this into a movie!

  • Really nailed those tough days of early motherhood and created the suspense masterfully, while also saying something much bigger about the way women (and mothers, in particular) are treated in our society.

  • I read this amazingly captivating book in just over 24 hours! I received an advance copy and was so excited to crack this beautiful book open. The writing was just perfect, and I NEVER could have predicted the fantastic twist at the end. This book officially comes out in May 2018 and I’m going to buy a copy for my personal library! Highly recommend.

  • Well done, Aimee Molloy. The Perfect Mother is the perfect book to read when you are looking for something completely absorbing which you won't be able to put down. I wish this was the book I had with me on my last 16 hour flight. A psychological thriller, it is also an insightful commentary on the demands of motherhood, relationships, friendship and work. The writing is very good and the ending totally surprised me. Thank you to @harperbooks for the advance reader's edition of #the perfect moth [...]

  • I've just recently started reading books in this genre (thank you Laura Lippman) and I've been really lucky that the ones I have read have been really SMART. This book is no exception--it's really smart. Aimee's writing is SO VERY GOOD. ( no more caps, I promise) While this is a book very much about Brooklyn, it is a universal story of new motherhood and the internal struggles women go through. I was completely unprepared for the ending. I wanted to close at the end and immediately open back to [...]

  • I loved this book! I devoured it in two days - I didn’t want it to end. Well written and completely entertaining.

  • This book touched on all the levels, fears, thoughts and nuances of being a mother. I don't want to spoil anythingd I mean anything but I fell in love with this book. Aimee Molly painted such a vivid picture of motherhood, and everything that comes along with it, all the things that are talked about, even the things that people don't willingly share/talk about. I cannot wait to see what Molloy will do next, she has a lifelong fan in this reader. 1,000xs thanks to HarperCollins for the early ARC! [...]

  • Thank you to Edelweiss and the publisher for a book that I could not put down! The May Mothers meet in a park in Brooklyn and share their stories of raising their babies. When they plan a night away to relax and get Winnie to have some fun, things go really wrong. Winnie's son Midas goes missing. As the story plays out, we see the little cracks in the facades that they have all put on. Little secrets come out of the dark and as the police and a few of the mothers search for the truth, we are take [...]

  • The May Mothers: That's what a team of Brooklyn new mother's call themselves. They meet at a local park to discuss the all things related to being a beginner parent. Desperately needing a night out without their kids or partners, the group decides to visit to a local bar. While the women are there, one of their babies goes missing. Secrets, hidden pasts, and current conflicts will make this new heart pounding suspense novel thrilling for many. Unfortunately, this missed the mark for me. I can't [...]

  • "The Perfect Mother"Written by Aimee MolloyReview written by Diana Iozzia of Bookworm Banter."The Perfect Mother" is a near perfect psychological thriller. When this arrived on my front porch for me to read and review, I nearly jumped for joy. I hadn't remembered submitting a request for this or entering a contest, so this felt almost like a Christmas present. I was instantly intrigued by the cover, description, review quotes, and the announcement that this is going to be a major motion picture [...]

  • I really loved this book. Kept me going until the end. Completely blindsided by whodunit which makes a perfect thriller.

  • I received an advanced copy of this thriller. It will not be published until May of 2018."Even now, a year later, I sit alone in this prison cell, fingering the hard, jagged scar at my abdomen, thinking how differently everything might have turned out if it weren't for them." This is how the story begins. From the start, you know that someone is going to be caught for committing a crime. What you do not know is what the crime will be.Set within a group of mothers, The May Mothers, who all have d [...]

  • I don't have human, two-legged children. Watching my sister going through pregnancy was like seeing Alien in slo-mo. Did I really want to read about cracked nipples and incontinence pads? Happily, the reviews were too good to ignore and that’s how I discovered one of the best books I've read this year. Hard to believe it's the first time the author ventures into fiction! Yes, there is mention of clogged nipples, but this is the story of several women who happen to be new mothers. Full-drawn wo [...]

  • I won a copy of this in a Giveaway. It was a decent suspense-with-a-twist story. A group of new mothers (and a "token" dad), all with their own secrets, meet and form a superficial bond. That bond is tested when a night out ends with a kidnapped baby. I liked that the women of the group were supportive of each other. I thought the depiction of the scrutiny and judgment the women were receiving from the public and the media was spot on. I thought the reveal was a tiny bit over the top, but overal [...]

  • This is one of the best mysteries I've read in a long time. I was so absorbed I read until my eyes were burning and then made coffee to read some more. I didn't see that ending coming at all! I definitely recommend this book to every mystery fan. The writing was perfect for the storyline the characters interesting and easy to follow, and I guarantee 99% of people won't even suspect the culprit. I can't wait to read more by this author.

  • It started out as a Mommy Group, fragile friendships in the making. They seem like typical modern day mothers, reading all they can and trying to follow all of the new trends and ideas in having a healthy baby and caring for a newborn. They have concerns, they have guilt, they have fear and they all have secrets. And then baby Midas is abducted and the lives of the women in the group are turned upside down. Too many past histories become lies, and then betrayals, as the women become too focused [...]

  • Full disclosure: I received this book as an ARE. But that fact did not compel me to finish reading the book in less than 24 hours. I started it before bed, and then continued it in the morning until finished. The plot obviously kept me engaged and intrigued. Sometimes I had trouble keeping the characters straight (especially at the beginning) and figuring out which one was speaking (at times the ambiguity slowed me down as I tried to go back and figure things out but eventually realized that it [...]
